India expected to formally ratify International Solar Alliance in December
New Delhi: International Solar Alliance (ISA), the India-headquartered grouping of 121 nations for promotion of solar energy, is expected to become a formally ratified body in December. “We have nine countries at the moment who have signed the framework agreement, and we are expecting six more countries to sign it. ISA will formally be ratified on 9 December. The official headquarter will be in Gurugram and will begin operation a month after that,” an ISA official said. ISA requires a minimum of 15 countries for the alliance to become operational as a legal body. Though the ISA framework agreement was opened for signature during the COP22 (UN climate conference) at Marrakesh, Morocco, on November 15 last year, only 39 of 121 countries have, so far, signed it, with only nine of them ratifying it.
