Given the enormous risks for the global economy, tackling climate change is not only an environmental imperative but also an economic one, says acting managing director of the Climate Change and Development Authority (CCDA), Mr Ruel Yamuna.
Mr Ruel said this when asked how discussions in Bonn, Germany have led to a new dynamic era whereby climate change issues and implementation under the Paris Agreement, are no longer a standalone thematic area of focus, but will include and incorporate sustainable development, sustainable trade and the major and extensive role of private sector investment.
“However, the necessary low carbon transition also represents a huge economic opportunity,” he said.
