Uganda: Youth Tipped On Green Jobs
A forestry official has urged the youth to plant trees create both short and long-term green jobs.
"Trees take long to grow but in the meantime, the youth can benefit from these trees through a number of ways like bee keeping and selling of seedlings which can improve their financial status," noted Assistant Commissioner of Forestry, Ms Margret Athieno Mwebesa.
She was speaking at a workshop for youth and women at Colline Hotel in Mukono.
Ms Mwebesa cited tree cutting for timber harvest, firewood harvest, charcoal production and farming as common causes of deforestation. She said afforestation, forest protection and sustainable biomass production would restore the country's forest cover.
