Opinion: Coal Has No Role in Sustainable Development of Ghana

Power generation through coal, might be considered as the cheapest, but, coal fired power plant poses severe threat to environmental sustainability. The hazards manifested through the establishment of coal fired power plant in terms of health, livelihoods destruction, among others are well known. Diseases such as asthma, to destruction of fertile farm lands are just a few problems associated with coal fired power plants. Technology, perhaps has come to reduce these problems, nevertheless, coal fired plants cannot be a solution to clean energy and sustainable development.
