Strategic Plan to Integrate Use of Natural Resources in Sumbawanga, Tanzania

Faced with increased population pressure, low agricultural productivity and weak institutional support in the management of natural resources, Sumbawanga in Rukwa Region is in need of revival.
As such, a project being implemented by the Netherlands International Development Agency, SNV, in the Sumbawanga cluster of the Southern Agricultural Growth Corridors in Tanzania (SAGCOT) is set to save the day.
The project is being implemented in cooperation with the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN). SAGCOT is an inclusive, multi-stakeholder partnership to rapidly develop the region's agricultural potential.
SAGCOT was initiated at the World Economic Forum (WEF) Africa summit 2010 with the support of founding partners including farmers, agri-business, the Government of Tanzania and companies from across the private sector.
