South Africa's Car-Free Town Comes to Life

Cape Town’s new R14 billion “car-free” Blue Rock Village is coming to life following the launch of phase one – Giovanni Luxury Terrace Apartments.

Blue Rock Village is a R14 billion upgrade to the current Blue Rock Resort located in Somerset West, in Cape Town, aimed at becoming South Africa’s ‘greenest’ city – the first with a six-star green rating from the Green Building Council South Africa.

The village will be ‘car-free’ with all parking to be underground, while apartments will use energy efficient appliances; LED lighting; water-management systems from showers to irrigation; solar water-heating systems and self-generated solar power.
