East African Nations Yet To Tackle Climate Change Problems
East African countries are yet to translate climate change policies into concrete actions for finding viable solutions to the problems arising from climate change, the study by a German international organisation, Konrad Adenauer Stiftung (KAS) has found.
Speaking during a ceremony to launch a book on Climate Change, Renewable Energies and Sustainable Resources in East Africa, Prof Aidan Msafiri of Mwenge Catholic University, gave some recommendations to EAC nations on climate change mitigation, including the need to involve all actors in the dialogue for finding solutions to the problem.
He cited the second and third recommendations as; the need to refrain from commercialization of climate change issues on the basis of competing for disbursed funds and the need for sharing good ideas on tackling the problems arising from climate change. Other recommendations given by him, include; the need to go beyond political will, the need to harmonise climate change policies among EAC nations and the need to uphold climate change justice, equity and credibility.
