Sub-Saharan Africa to Account for One Third of Global Undernourished People by 2025
Undernourishment in Sub-Saharan Africa in ten years will account for more than one third of the global total of undernourished, compared with just over a quarter today, the agricultural outlook report has just revealed.e report indicates that in Sub-Saharan Africa, the rate of undernourishment would decline from an estimated 23 to 19 percent however, because of rapid population growth, the region would still account for a rising share of the world's population suffering from hunger.
"This implies that without decisive steps to move away from business-as-usual, hunger would not be eradicated by 2030 as a global target", analysts say.
The report says many countries will be confronted with a complex burden of undernourishment (too few calories), obesity, and micronutrient deficiency due to unbalanced diets in Sub-Saharan Africa.
