BASIC Countries: Efforts Against Climate Change Irreversible
BASIC countries comprising Brazil, South Africa, India and China said today that efforts against climate change were irreversible and called for implementation of the Paris deal, days after US President Donald Trump ordered a roll back of his predecessor's climate policies.
The 24th BASIC Ministerial Meeting on climate change, which ended today, stressed that the global effort against climate change is an irreversible process that cannot be postponed and welcomed the early entry into force of the Paris Agreement under the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).
"Ministers discussed the international situation and developments, and reiterated their governments' unwavering commitment to the global effort against climate change," a joint statement issued at the end of the two-day meeting said.
"They urged all signatories to stay on course and maintain their support to the Paris Agreement for the good of all humankind and our future generations," it said.
