Malawian Youth Plant 5000 Trees to Limit Effects of Flooding

Maestros ‘Go Green’ project, a grouping of passionate youths passionate about the environment, have planted 5 000 trees in the flood prone lower Shire district.

The project’s media and innovations liaison officer, Dennis Imman, told Nyasa Times that they felt they could do something as Maestros on the situation to reduce the effects of the devastating floods that hit the district almost every year.

“There is a women’s group that we worked with. They too were interested in the tree planting exercise and we partnered with them by buying the seedlings and polythene tubes,” said Imman.
