Climate change is near and dear to Robert Redford — and now it's near and dear to his Sundance Film Festival, too.
Sundance unveiled its initial list of last month, and while its documentary lineup is sure to get people talking thanks to films about JonBenet Ramsey, the Hulk Hogan-Gawker trial and the uprising in Ferguson, Missouri, the festival is also making headlines with a special New Climate program.
New Climate titles — such as Marina Zenovich's Water & Power: A California Heist, Jeff Orlowski's Chasing Coral and Jiu-liang Wang's Plastic China — appear in the festival's various sections, including both the U.S. and World Cinema Documentary competitions.
Festival director John Cooper embraced the idea, telling the Hollywood Reporter that climate change and other environmental issues were overlooked during the election.
