The World Bank has supported 10, 845 farmers under the FADAMA III Additional Financing project in Kano State in the last 10 months.
Mr Sha’aibu Sulaiman, the state project coordinator, made the disclosure in an interview with News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) in Abuja on Thursday.
Suleiman said the support was rendered after signing of a Memorandum of Understanding between Dangote Tomato Company and Fadama Production Cluster Group on profitable marketing of tomato.
He said that 1, 575 of the beneficiaries were women engaged in agriculture, 585 youth and 8, 685 male.
“The project similarly, in 2016 cropping season, recorded a disbursement of N89, 195 billion for rice, sorghum and tomato production groups.
“Sorghum and rice farmers were equally well linked to Grand Cereal, a popular rice farm off-takers, and Honeywell Company, demanding 150,000 metric tones from fadama farmers in Kano.
“In its effort to meet up with the project objective of providing employment to youth, the project has prepared four youth spraying groups, comprising of ten members each, to earn N58,500 monthly.”
