Teachers Plant Trees, Encourage Ending Charcoal Deforestation
“The use of charcoal and firewood in heating have been a major source of deforestation, especially in rural areas and this could be preventable when gas and electricity reach rural areas,” he said.
Mr Rashid said that the process of supply gas and electricity has to be a priority for citizens because they are the major consumers of charcoal and firewood.
He said this during a tree planting exercise at Mwenge Primary School and Korongoni Secondary School both based in the municipality of Moshi in Kilimanjaro Region.
He also said that energy supply has to go hand in hand with the delivery of environmental education and relief of the use of gas for domestic use because most people still take gas consumption as a dangerous and expensive undertaking.
