The government of Malawi has recommended to farmers not to rely only on rainfall and one crop for domestic consumption in anticipation of acute hunger in most parts of the country.

The Agriculture Extension Development Coordinator (AEDC) of Chiweta Extension Planning Area (EPA) in Rumphi district which falls under the Mzuzu Agriculture Development Division (MZADD) has told farmers to start following good crop husbandry practices to harvest more yields amid climate change.

Wakisa Kalima said this year the office of the AEDC has come up with mechanisms of establishing demonstration farms where they will plant crops like cassava, sweet potatoes, maize and groundnuts to find out how these crops perform through irrigation farming.
